A modular brand system inspired by traditional Rótulo lettering and the spirit of Guadalajara, built for a cafe and wholesale bean operation with roots in Mexican coffee culture.
The Brief
Blackhouse is an extension of Guadalajaran culture, where its founder grew up, melted into the spirit of the Midwest.
The brand needed to carry that spirit authentically, without feeling contrived.
The Process
The answer was Rótulo lettering, the hand-painted sign tradition of Guadalajara, reinterpreted as a modular identity system built to be broken into pieces and put back together again.
The Full System
The complete Blackhouse identity system: five marks across three core colors and their tonal variations. Scroll to see the full range.
The Signatures
The most intricate (and beautiful) components of the system. These signature marks are designed to be used decoratively and at large scales.
The Outcome
Blackhouse now has a visual identity as strong as its heritage, one that carries its dedication to craft coffee into every cup.
